West Chester Rustin Football Coaching Staff

Mike St. Clair: Varsity Head Coach

Coach St. Clair has been coaching and teaching at Rustin since it inception in 2006. The team has accumulated an impressive 104-39 record and has won 1 district title and 6 Ches-mont American league titles.  Prior to coaching at Rustin, Coach St. Clair served as the defensive coordinator at West Chester East from 1993-2005. Coach St. Clair earned a degree in Economics from Bloomsburg University where he played free safety on the football team from 1980-1984.

Mike Mohring: Defensive Line Coach and JV Coach

Mike Mohring is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he was 4 year starer on the University of Pittsburgh football tea. Mike had a 5 year career in the NFL where he played with the San Diego Chargers and 1 year for the Oakland Raiders.

Steve Walsh: Co-Defensive Coordinator / Inside Linebackers / Special Teams / Strength & Conditioning 

Coach Walsh joined the Golden Knight in the 2015 season while at Stetson Middle School. He has since joined the staff coaching Inside Linebackers and Special Teams. Coach Walsh brings many years of experience after coaching at Glen Mills Schools, Williamson College of Trades and St. Thomas CYO.  He played football and competed in Powerlifting at both North Penn High School and West Chester University.

Shaz Brown: Wide Receiver and Defensive Back Coach  / JV Head Coach

Coach Brown is a 2002 graduate of Villanova where he was a 3 year starter and team captain during his senior year. He played in the Chesapeake Classic All-Star Game representing Mount Saint Joseph's High School. He was later inducted into Mount Saint Joseph's Hall of Fame in 2015.  Coach Brown is also the current Boys Head Track and Field Coach.

John Timko: Offensive Line Coach

Coach Timco is a graduate of Lehigh University with a degree in Business Management and a 4 year letterman on the Lehigh football team.  Prior to coaching at Rustin, Coach Timco was the offensive line coach at West Chester East form 2002-2066 where he also graduated from in 1999.

Mitch Hoffman: Assistant Coach / Strength and Conditioning

Coach Hoffman is a graduate of Great Valley High school where he was a 3 year starter as the quarterback and defensive back on the football team and member of the baseball team. He continued his baseball career at Western Maryland College where he graduated in 2004. Prior to joining the Knights, he served as the Head Football Coach at Stetson Middle School. Coach Hoffman is a Social Studies teacher at Peirce Middle School and coaches Varsity Baseball at Rustin.

John Alvanitakis: 9th Grade Head Coach / Assistant Football Coach

Coach A has been the Head Football Coach for 9th grade for the past 8 years. He also serves as the Assistant Football Coach with the Rustin football program since it inaugural season in 2006.  Coach A received a Master's Degree from Immaculata University and has worked as the Athletic Director at East High School from 2003-2005, Health & Phys Ed at Garnet Valley from 1997-2003 and was the head football coach for the middle school programs.

Rob D'Urbano: 9th Grade Assistant Coach 

Coach D'Urbano is the 9th grade assistant football coach for the past 8 years. He graduated from West Chester University in 2012 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. He received his Master's in School Health from West Chester University and is entering his 10th year of teach Health and PE at Rustin.

Bob Carey: Assistant Coach and Special Teams

Except for a three year stint at Malvern Prep from 2009-2011, Coach Carey has been with the Rustin Football program from the beginning. Coach Carey is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania where he lettered in football.  Coach Carey helps Coach Timko and Coach Mohring with the offensive and defensive lines, and he currently works with Coach Walsh on Special Teams.

Ken Banks: Quarterback Coach:

Coach Banks joined the Rustin coaching staff in 2019 as the Quarterback Coach. He attended The University of Akron where he started at quarterback as a true freshman. After finishing at Akron he began his coaching career as the Quarterback Coach at the Glen Mills Schools in 1984, eventually becoming Offensive Coordinator and then Head Football Coach from 1993 to 2003. After finishing up at the Glen Mills Schools Coach Banks coached at Williamson College of Trade where he coached running backs, then quarterbacks, and eventually Offense Coordinator. Coach Banks also helped out coaching at BYC and Saint Thomas CYO. Coach Banks has been coaching football for 38 years.
